Native Gardening

We envision prairie native plants thriving in our community, and the AGA Native Gardening Group is a space for AGA folks to chat about all things native to our region. This offshoot of the larger AGA community is focused on fostering plants and wildlife indigenous to Chicagoland, and on promoting the inclusion of native plants in urban landscaping.

In the spirit of AGA, we are a hyperlocal group looking to connect neighbors and build community within and around the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago. In the fall of 2024, we planted a native garden at the Firehouse on Elston, and our semi-annual workdays to maintain the space are a great opportunity to learn about the plants from seasoned natives gardeners.

AGA Native Plants Group maintains the mission of AGA by sharing and swapping resources, knowledge, and appreciation of all things related to native plants and ecosystems. We are all in different stages of our journey towards becoming native gardeners. We welcome all questions, concerns, and feedback delivered in a positive and supportive manner.

Join in on the conversation on our AGA Native Gardeners Facebook subgroup.
