February’s Seed Event

Every February, right around garden planning time, we host a Seed event at our neighbor The Beer Temple where you can pick up FREE seeds from AGA and your neighbors! These include a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, natives, flowers, ground cover, and more. AGAers can participate in an online dibs ahead of time, offering, requesting, or claiming seeds online, OR you can show up to the event day-of and still have a tremendous variety to choose from!

May’s Seedling Extravaganza!

Our annual Seedling Extravaganza, hosted at our buddies Revolution Brewing, is the biggest AGA fundraiser of the year, and a real boon to Chicago gardeners! We’re famous for our variety, quality, and quantity of seedlings.

Reasons to get your garden started at our seedling event:

• Incredible biodiversity! Our members are growing their favorite crops all over the neighborhood (and beyond!) to share with you. You'll definitely find varieties you've never seen before.

• Epigenetics! Our members save their favorite seeds season after season to bring you crops genetically predisposed to do well in Avondale.

• Community! The most inexpensive way to get your garden going and the best way to help the AGA bring fun and useful events to the community. All your donations go straight to AGA programming.

Attendees are asked to donate based on the net seedlings you leave the swap with; for example, if you bring 5 seedlings to share and you leave the swap with 12 plants, we ask you donate for the difference of 7 plants, at $1 to $5 per plant, depending on size. If you brought no seedlings, we ask that you donate for all of the plants you walk away with. Really good deal all around!
